Wouldn't recommend it for sustained high volume ddos attacks though. That's what cloudflare gives you an advantage on because they have managed capacity. For a front line filter for bots on linux set up ufw or nft tables to block by IP, port, protocol etc. Then use nginx or haproxy for http-aware filtering.
