My buddy's job was to be roommates with a guy who slept in his uniform with his boots on whenever the sun was up. The idea was that if anyone started shouting something in Korean, my buddy could tell this American guy what they were saying, and communicate it in terms any American would understand immediately.
The American roommate slept all day, but sound as a rock. We would hang out in the room and do whatever while he slept. Never saw him awake.
Comissary was all American food. Roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad bar, ice cream... Comped. The theater on base was showing a Tommy Lee Jones movie, no tickets needed. Local Korean metal bands were extremely popular at the bars. |
