they just get league minimum contracts the day after the draft? and the late round draft picks have to try out and risk getting cut? isnt it almost better just to not get drafted then to get drafted in the seventh round?

They can sign with any team once the draft ends, often within minutes. They usually get league minimum contracts with small signing bonuses, but they can pick a team where they have the best shot to make the roster.

Seventh-round picks get slightly better deals and more job security, but they’re still not guaranteed a roster spot—many get cut too.

In some cases, it is better to go undrafted: you avoid being tied to a team that doesn’t fit your skill set and can negotiate with multiple suitors. But the downside is zero guaranteed money and no draft pedigree helping your cause.

Of course they are. There may be an upfront payment. Then a weekly amount during camp. And then a weekly amount per season. (And a different weekly amount if they end up on practice squad).

cr. they're also not like total unknowns either. the hardcore draft people usually have the vast majority identified in their draft guides.
