Kauai is pretty trippy if you stay up to Hanalei. Kinda depends on what you want to do. Oahu has the best beaches and surfing.

Traffic sucks normally. As you said, when there’s a wreck, flooding, whatever there is no alternate route on long stretches of kuhio highway. You’ll have a great view while you are stuck.

Advice me instead. Should I buy a condo in Honolulu? The idea would be to keep my miami beach condo and maintain Florida tax residency. But I'd work night job out of honolulu(finish 6 hrs earlier). I'd walk to mauna Kea Beach protected from sharks and waves by the reef and use natural dhade from the palm tree instead of sun umbrellas. What floor do you need in a highrise to avoid mosquitoes and always keep the window open?

They don't have mosquitos in Waikiki, but you'd want to be on 10 or higher to get cool breezes. And even higher if you don't like being waken up by sirens and garbage trucks at 3:00 a.m.

Oh it's also a leasehold and that's "renegotiated in 2032". The other Apts in that building that are not leasehold and have a view and balcony cost at least $1mil +maintenance higher than my Florida condo.

And after that you will not be able to sell it for 1/2 what you bought it for while the rent is doubled.. leasehold are a complete fraud. But in fact I see that Hawaii is a nonstsrter. It's way more expensive than Miami Beach, and yet their hoa fees keep going up just the same despite no hurricanes. They just figured "old plumbing, increasing claims and labor costs and fires throughout the country". So even if you have $1mil cash to drop on a piedaterre it's much better to spend it elsewhere

Yeah I didn't see that at first. Lease is for the "ground property", not condo itself. Some buildings in nyc are like that. It means the price goes into freefall once they approach new lease date as it can double.

That beach (natural reef protected from sharks) is the only one I would swim in hawaii.. I went there and Waikiki beach itself is complete shit. But in any case with such prices I'd rather just retire a few years earlier and move to Vietnam or turkey.

There’s barely any “sharks” in hawaii. I go out before sunrise every morning and I’ve never even been bitten.

But yeah Viet sounds nice. Like TT

I'm not dumb to swim in the open ocean there. It looks much sharkier than Miami. In Miami I actually have a natural sandbar 50yards from shore that makes it 3-4ft deep so keeps sharks out. I often hang out on that sandbar at sunset when it's low tide just 2ft deep. Hawaii only has that on ala moana.
