"what do you mean where? It's right there, binding these particles."

"Ok but why is the force binding these particles powerful enough to blast through population centers?"

"man what the fuck do I look like? Who cares?"

"look we're pretty sure if we tried to pull these two subatomic particles apart with our bare hands it would require the application of more force than physics allows."

"Ok but then how can there be that much force binding them?"

"Man I don't fuckin know. Are we gonna test this fuckin thing or we gonna get Stephen Hawking on the phone?"

XO Poaster: So there's a strong nuclear force and a weak nuclear force?

"Scientist": That's right, you can measure them both.

XO Poaster: So no matter what you measure you've decided in advance there's a nuclear force, are scientists supposed to come to a conclusion and then take a measurement to confirm it.

"Scientist": *looks for an escape route*

"But the strong nuclear force does exist."

Physicists and the mentally retarded are alike in their complete inability to compute counterfactuals.

There are several supposedly fundamental forces with no good theory relating them to each other. C.w. Lucas published a grand unified theory with the electromagnetic force as the fundamental force, with finite sized elementary particles in the shape of a torus with internal charge density. The strong force and weak force are derived from the interactions of the charge fibers that make up the toroidal ring-shaped elementary particles. It even had an explanation for gravity. It was a great model but it never caught on in the USA, though it has some adherents in Europe and South America.

Tbf this approach vector (“but WHY does it exist?”) can be taken with regard to anything existing. And an honest scientist should rightly answer “idk my whole schtick is to originate hypotheses about HOW it exists and test them.”

“Where does it come from” is a legitimate science question if understood as HOW, i.e. what existed right before it in time, if anything, that influences it

But if where does it come from means WHY is it existing at all, that’s outside of the scientific method

Also is that your final answer?

I don’t need personal credentials to say it. I can take the scientific method as it’s given to me by scientists and evaluate what it’s made to do and what it’s not.

Forcing why questions into it is like using a hammer as screwdriver. I need no credentials to see the problem

The question isn't why it's "where." And I THOUGHT the answer was "the big bang," but apparently that's up for debate.

i think, honestly, youre using imprecise words.

you don't mean "where", which indicates a location in space.

you might mean "how did it get there", which is a way of asking, what existed before this force which caused it to exist in the manner it does? Mark that as question A

but the framing slips easily into "why does this force exist at all, versus it not existing". question B

A is amenable to the scientific method, B is not.
