i thought he had his own license but he worked under another guy's license which was expired. likely didn't have workers comp. never disclosed it. signed a contract for a fair amount but he narrowed the scope and then increased the price by 50% thereafter, the fucker. i rolled with it reluctantly but the lack of license and likely workers comp was a big deal - if there was an issue i would have been liable, and likely my homeowners policy would not cover me for a claim if he was unlicensed. the last straw was when he had one of his workers come to collect not just his tools but material i had paid for on site today. i have already paid him a lot of money unfortunately. having a licensed electrician under the GC we are using (i had carved the electrical out like a retard) provide a quote for the remainder of the work (they came out today and said the work done was shoddy, lol at me), but then will be sending a demand letter to this unlicensed electrician for either the differential, the cost of materials, or every dollar paid out (given he's a scumbag) - in CA he is not entitled to a penny without a license. i don't think he's collectable though, he had a forcible eviction back in april lol. it's partially my fault for not checking his credentials first, i had a brainfart because he came highly recommended. lesson learned i guess.

Probably not collectible? I don’t know if there is any defendant less collectible than an unlicensed solo contractor.

white guy in his 60s who may have co-owned a house until his recent divorce. he owns a couple of jetskis per running a credit check, maybe ill take those lol.

but yeah my sense is very uncollectable
