For all the silliness of The Burrito Discourse, it actually is crazy what a massive disconnect there is between eating out in the US and Asia

You can eat out for super cheap in Asia. Meanwhile over here you are paying a comically enormous mark-up for anything. Even fast food is now ridiculously expensive. But people here are still eating out more than ever. It's like they're just resigned to it and think they have no other option

It's super fucking weird. Like the population has been legit brainwashed into this behavior as social conditioning. Something very weird going on with this

I make over $400k and we cook 90% of our meals. And even when we go out, it's nothing special. Very few places feel worthwhile at this point.

I think most people just do their 401K contributions and then spend basically every other dollar. Totally brutal.

Honestly if not for women being in the picture, I think most men would be content eating chicken, rice, beans, and eggs and maybe going to a diner once a week. Monthly cost would be like $200.

At least I'd be down for that tbh.

The crazy part is decent grocery stores now basically sell ingredients with most of the prep work done. I recently bought some pre-cut and seasoned chicken to make tacos at home and it was better than Chipotle for 1/10th the price (and it fed multiple people). It was like $5 and it could've fed me across three meals easily.

That's what's crazy. You don't even really need to know how to cook beyond heating a fucking pan at this point.

When I came back to USA and heard so many doordash, I was like cool.

Then I tried to order some McDonalds and it was going to be more than $20 for 1 meal and that's if I offered like a $2 tip which apperently wouldn't get a driver.

I never tried to do that again.

Fast food and other slop chips are expensive now because the commercial real estate rents have become insane. Moreover, since the Great Inflation, property values have increased massively, so now the property taxes are outrageous as well.

So for any of these slop shops to make it, they have to charge $16 for a burger and $20.99 for the fries & drink combo meal.

America has an addiction economy now where the main drug of choice is genetically modified goyslop created in labs. The fast food and everything else is meant to be addicting. There's no fundamental difference between the fent junkie on the street and the obese Guatemalan family you see who just got done gorging themselves on some Wendy's. These people have effectively given up on life. They're now just slaves to their passions (i.e. addicts).

there is nothing weird about it at all. the food industry realized people are fat lazy fucks and will pay the premium to not cook their own food. covid in particular opened the flood gates because once restaurants/fast food saw how much people were willing to pay for doordash fees they realized they could just raise the base prices by a shitload.

It does sound weird but it's spot-on. Doordash changed the game. If it wasn't for them, all the quick-service restaurants would still be playing their old games of trying to win business with discounts.

The discounts have gone away because the restaurants have all realized they can make plenty of money by soaking Doordash whales.

How do people go on first dates to restaurants; its a $350 commitment and no one wants to be responsible for that. Its just too much too soon.
