family friend who worked at a large regional company for years said she would get to work at 8am or earlier every day and wasn't allowed to clock in until 8:30am in a receptionist/admin type role.
she and others in that position would work all the time and her superiors were aware of it and encouraged it though didn't require it. they worked during like half of their lunch breaks too which they were clocked out for. again not a requirement but they didnt have like a dedicated room to go for lunch so they would just keep tending to whatever customrs needed when they came in. happened at a large regional company with a lot of different offices.
i told my mom to tell her friend to talk to an employment lawyer but im curious if this actually lawsuit worthy.
seems like if you have to pay for all time worked it would add up to a lot of people there who have been in her position over the years.

yea, this is a wage-hour claim (potentially a class/collective action).
i know very little about this area since i only do traditional labor (union/labor relations) now, but from what you said it sounds like a legit case.
what city/region? i can ask my firm's lolyers for a recco for a plaintiff's lawyer.
