Like all great handles, it sticks in your brain. Vaguely funny-sounding but not over-the-top silly. Similar enough to his name that it doesn’t seem too try-hard. I don’t think he would have gotten traction here without it. Like Douglas Adams’s bit about how successful pop writers have to have a name that fits nicely onto a paperback cover.

Cucky that he abandoned it because his wife suggested it. Imagine working so hard to building a brand just to switch gears because of a birdbrains fleeting thought.

Yes. Now, his real name is pretty solid, to be fair. The strength of the German first name offsets the fagginess of the French surname. Sounds vaguely aristocratic, like he’s from some noble-descended Alsatian family or something. But “Karlstack” is just much better for the Internet, small intellectual communities, etc.

Agreed. And even if the the change isn't a bad idea per se it's just funny how he did it because of his wife's whim. Its a small window into his unseriousness. Just like the I love Ackman -> I love Fuentes -> Fuck the groypers journey.

Was it that? I thought it was just him trying to be more serious.
