It's like a round robin playoff format with no single elimination. Truly idiotic.

The other thing brilliant about the NYC mayor race is that all the same characters are on the ballot again in November. So it's like what was the point? We got faggy ranked voting but technically no one was actually eliminated? So we get to rank vote them again? Liberals really do hate life and themselves.

If there were a viable third party it wouldn't be a waste of your vote to vote for them. The reason third parties feel like a waste is that they have almost zero popularity. It's their views that suck. Only one in a hundred people actually like them. But you want to feel special so you can rank Lander number one but Zohan two so you can lose on the first ballot but you're voting a second time to block Cuomo? How about you grow the fuck up and vote your conscience and too bad so sad your candidate woefully unpopular and it's on you to decide whether to throw your vote award or not. Third partymos cannot accept that no one wants them.

democracy sucks, but at the very least you have to give normgroids a maximum of 2 candidates, or a yes/no choice on something

it's just absurd to think that some normgroid ape is "rationally" doing a "ranked choice" of 5 different people lmao

What it is is it's voting twice. You're voting for someone you know isn't going to win but you're saying wait wait, I deserve a second chance here. I knew my buddy was only going to get ten votes. But it was REALLY heckin important that I express my voice. Anyway back in reality I'd rather have this guy than the other guy.

It's so needy to give libs two votes but they must have their do-over Mulligan vote after they've got their super important feelings off their chest.

It seems to me that ranked voting will go away naturally with time. How far off are we from the candidate who gets all of his die hard supporters to only vote for him and refuse to rank vote other candidates? At that point the strongest coalition will win and ranked voting will die.

Alternatively, it will never die because voters are cucky and don’t know what they want.

? If somebody has strong enough support that people ranking only him makes a difference, then that's no different between him having a lot of 1's and then those ballots have 2-5's that will never matter anyway. What IRV prevents is a third party vanity faggot from siphoning 10% of the vote from the candidate closer to them. Some of those might vote for only their guy anyway, but that's no different than throwing the vote away in a FPTP system.

I don't like ranked choice voting because suppose someone ranks 8 no-chance faggot third party candidates, then the Dem 9th and the Republican 10th. Their 9th place choice is going to count just as much as a normal person's 1st place choice.

What kind of abject loser sits around ranking victories? The metric generally is if you were a two term President or not. And then you get ranked against the other Presidents based on your administration. I have never heard of someone sitting around and dick measuring the margin of victory. Trump was a two term President. Biden only one term and Kamala never. He's ranked ahead of those two out of the gate.

So just vote for the third party then? Why do you deserve some kind of mulligan do over if the third party doesn't win? Why do you get to vote twice? Just vote once faggot. You don't deserve multiple shots on goal.

wdym "why do you deserve?" as if theres some moral absolutisn to organizing political parties. why does any "deserve" a vote in the primaries, that wasn't alwats a thing either?

You're insane. I have zero thoughts about NYC. This shut really started to bother me when it happened in Alaska. You have no clue and you're just making shit up. I only talked about NYC because other people did. My main issue with Alaska was it felt like no one ever dropped out. Without a primary it seemed like the candidates were running against each other forever. The general election sucked because you had two Republicans and a Democrat and I the the Dem won narrowly because of ranked choice which is why LTM thinks he loves this plan. I think the R would have won if there had been a primary but the two Rs went scorched Earth and so some of the Rs put D as their second choice instead of going for the other guy. Now maybe the outcome would have been the same if there were only two candidates on the final ballot instead of three, we'll never know. But I would have much preferred that one of the Rs get eliminated in the primary that way the general election could have been one on one. I think the R candidate should have been given the runway to combat the D opponent solo rather than have to run against a D and another R. I just don't like the whole system because it creates too much intraparty fighting instead of settling business up front and focusing on one candidate and bringing people together. LTM think MAGA kooks would be done forever if there were ranked vote generals because all the fence sitters could vote for a moderate neocon and then D second. This is an absurd system and it sucks.

The other thing brilliant about the NYC mayor race is that all the same characters are on the ballot again in November. So it's like what was the point? We got faggy ranked voting but technically no one was actually eliminated? So we get to rank vote them again? Liberals really do hate life and themselves.

elections should only have one candidate. avoids all the fighting and nastiness, which ultimately hurts are country. countries that do that have it right imo. everyone can still vote, its still democratic.

A round robin playoff is better than single elimination because you get a total ranking of competitors instead of letting a bad one slip through by the luck of the draw. So by your own admission ranked choice voting is better than plurality voting.

right that's why the final 4 teams in every sport each play each other once and are awarded points for winning and the team with the highest points total is crowned champion.

Like how do we really know that the Knicks were not the best team in the NBA? They didn't even get to play the Thunder and the Timberwolves.

Wow! You're so smart!

cr it benefits people who vote tactically and dishonestly, as compared to credulous high-trust people who earnestly rank their preferences. not a good system! would work great if the electorate were entirely made up of this second group but well haha

It does a far better job of picking the candidate who reflects the positions of the median voter. It should be done without a primary. All the candidates in one race like Alaska. If we had it in congress you wouldn’t get all these nutter fringe reps in deep red and deep blue districts. They win a primary with like 500 total voters and cruise in the general election even if they’re not reflective of what the average voter in that district wants.

Ranked choice didn’t figure at all. He won without it. And I said it should be implemented with all candidates in a general election. Primaries are the real problem.
