There's no other reason. They suck to use as actual chopsticks. No other Asian country would even think to do this. It's disgusting to reuse the same chopsticks over and over. The bowls and plates: stainless steel too.

Do they really do this? The line dividing parody and reality is pretty much gone at this point, believe me.

Look at them trying to claim they "traditionally" made them out of iron. Iron chopsticks theory.

I think he means it’s disgusting to use them making reusing them even more gross.

When you go to restaurants, instead of getting disposable wooden chopsticks in a wrapper, you have to dig some old steel chopsticks out of a bin on the table. Do you really trust these people to give each chopstick a good scrub before they put it back in the bin?

I'm American, so the idea of restaurants having stainless steel utensils is not strange

In the 70s Pohang Iron and Steal (POSCO) exercised more dictatorial control over South Korea than state-owned industries in the North. It's really hard to say which country had a more state-directed economy until the mid-80s. North Korea also outproduced South Korea in steel, cars, and other heavy industry until the early 80s. For a long time South Koreans could only make socks and underwear, so making steel was a huge deal.

I ordered this set for a thank you gift. I gave them to him with a couple of rests just before entering an Asian Restaurant for lunch. He was very surprised and pleased!!! They were unique and well made. Recommend this shop

1972–1992

POSCO first began to sell plate products in 1972 and focused its sales policies on the domestic market to improve steel self-sufficiency at home. It made special efforts to supply quality iron and steel to related domestic companies at below export price to strengthen their international competitiveness
