In reality, a lot of these trends have more to do with technology than anything else. A world where it is just as easy to send work to India as to Indiana is going to look fundamentally different than a world where even communicating with India is a huge deal and as a result most things are local.
Back to your union item, consider that if I'm looking for a place to setup a factory and my choices are a local place with strong unions vs a bunch of locations around the world where that isn't a thing then I won't even consider the former. |
