Actually, that was harsh. The steak and Brussels look to be A or A+. The mashed potatoes look a little dry, but that's hard to judge so I will give you a solid A for a home-cooked meal especially knowing that you probably made it in a kitchen with an electric range based on the photos I have seen of your place. Food photography is actually challenging.

we have a gas range

either way, I grilled the ribeye on this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FDOON9C (purchased in 2019)

nothing shady, no tricks, no gimmicks: just a nice 1.5"-2" thick ribeye left out at room temp for about 45 min, then seasoned with salt and pepper and grilled at about 700 degF for ~12 minutes)

the brussels sprouts were lightly coated in olive oil and tossed with freshly minced garlic & shallots, freshly grated parmesan, and salt and pepper. I cooked them on a cast iron skillet that I preheated to 450 degF and coated with duck fat. I cooked the brussels sprouts at 400 degF for about 20 min (until tender)

potatoes were even simpler: boiled russets passed through a food mill and combined with butter, garlic, shallots, and heavy cream that I preheated (I sauteed the garlic & shallots in the butter, then 'deglazed' with the heavy cream)

bravo. 9/10.

simplicity of fresh ingredients cooked with a deft hand almost always trumps fancy recipes and michelin techniques. you get docked a point solely for plating and photography.

Looks like a nice dinner. I broke my 72 hour fast with some burgers on the grill. My boys ate none of it. They just came inside the house and kind of laughed at me, grabbed an apple, and ran off to make a mess somewhere.

I also went and heated them up some baked beans because I thought they would like those. The baby ate some so he was happy. But nobody else cared.

After dinner I went for a 3 mile walk. I should break 5000 calories today.

I've honestly perfected regular mashed potatoes, so I like to experiment every now and then. I've done garlic mashed, parmesan mashed, horseradish mashed, every permutation of smashed potato, using different types of potatoes, etc. For me personally, nothing seems to beat baked russets put through a food mill and seasoned with a mixture of warm butter, cream, salt, and white pepper.
