Is there anything good to do there? Any value in real estate(i.e. as a base for driving to killington?). Any swimmable lake? Or just overpriced shithole?

There are deals to be found across the river in Vermont.

Check out where the Bloody Brook flows in the Beaver Meadow.

I thought you were from California? I find nature in New England much inferior to lake Tahoe area... but I can get some side money there and if I move overseas and maintain residence in NH, that's no state tax.

Hanover has a premium in prices because you get a functioning public school district (rare north of Boston suburbs). If you don’t need that and just want to live near trees/mountains/lakes most of that region has similar houses at lower prices and you can drive to Hanover whenever.

What are good towns if you don't care for that but want to have a place to crash that's not in the middle of the woods? And don't like driving more than 10mins for work either..

In New England if it isn’t a “good school district” then it is either a Scumtown or a URM Section 8 city.

So if you want a place somewhere that wouldn't get "occupied" while you're away for 3months, it needs to be an overpriced condo?
