working for the government entails self-sacrifice (taking a pay cut) that i'm not willing to make because i don't think my contributions would be impactful enough to justify it.
i do a lot of volunteer work and mix around in local political circles. i'm not going to quit my day job to be some middle manager in government. i wouldn't accept a AG or art 3 offer (and to be clear i have never been in the running for something like that) either.
i think the biggest impact i can have on the world is doing things within my sphere of influence. even trump, who ushered in a whole new movement and completely reshaped the GOP, is having trouble accomplishing much. i don't think i'd be able to do anything 5 direct reports down from him or something.
