post ww2 best am career might be frank stranahan who won three times on tour as an am. no one else has done it twice. also finished 2nd in three pro majors competing against guys like hogan snead and nelson. he did eventually turn pro though
could also just say tiger. three us ams in a row is insane, especially considering the way he had to comeback in some of those matches |

tiger woods' am wins dont count as majors imo but he obviously made it and theyre a huge part of his lore |
