a good wills and trust guy with good connections to local financial planning firms and wealth advisors can absolutely print money

Yeah but this all sounds boring as fuck. I think it would probably be cooler to do probate litigation. Or conservatorships.

its not, I do the latter as part of my practice - probate lit and conservatorships are a step up from family law IMO but mostly family members getting bitter over money when a relative passes away - just tons of drama and shit, lots of pettiness.

I'd much rather be a high volume trusts and wills dude with lots of good referrals (again, networking with financial planners and shit). These guys are also rainmakers in terms of referrals to other lawyers, as the people getting their wills and trusts done (usually 30-40 something yuppies) dont know any attorneys to call when some crap pops up(other than their biglaw neighbor who is useless for day to day "law").

Yeah, but it seems like a losing composition in the long run to focus your career on something that you can get from a legal service plan that costs $15 a month and pay network attorneys a few hundred bucks.

Then again, I came into possession of the list of standard clauses for one with 4.7 reviews. Maybe it would make a cute side practice.

you gotta understand. UMC yuppies that have wealth advisors and $1mm+ net worth don't want to have some shitlawyer from a legal service plan draft their stuff. They think they are getting better service from the more expensive ones. Wills are easy, but trusts are where things can get slightly complicated and these people want a "good" lawyer doing this shit and are willing to pay
