tbf i don't think much of what passes for insider trading is actually all that bad as far as financial crimes go but it also depends on the context
call me old fashioned but the "hey tom, we're about to close a big deal at work, buy a few shares" prosecutions have always seemed to me as the result of a law enforcement apparatus with too much time on its hands
now the cases where you have willful manipulations of market events are very different but a little patronage skim off of organic market direction isn't much of a crime historically speaking and under a certain analytical light of what a market is supposed to be/do may even be called for to a select extent
questions of maximal economic efficiency come into play as well as those of classism/stagnation of wealth
