Before 30 it's understandable if you're not making much money and you haven't yet wisened up to the automobile scam.

After 30 it's a total prole tell. It's even worse when proles double down and say, "I'm getting higher returns on my investments!" Ljl, no you're not. Stop lying, you don't have investments. The stats on "investments" are abysmal, most of you are poor as fuck.

I have plenty of money and have a car loan because I get better return on investments. It's the same reason I don't prepay my mortgage.

If someone buys a car and the dealer is offering financing incentives it's stupid not to take advantage of it. I would borrow an infinite amount of money at 0.9%.

Huge prole tell. Most people are not investing anywhere near the residual money leftover.

The other part of this that makes it a prole tell is you should have wisened up to the automobile scam by now. Just buy a used car in cash if you can't afford a new one.

Do you sense ant irony in accusing people with car loans of being poor while also buying used to save a couple bucks?

To even be considered UMC your car is gonna be an insignificant expenditure. No non-loser has to have a car loan after 40. But I take on as much ultra low interest rate debt as I can. I assure you that UHMW people do same. In fact anyone that knows how to manage money would be aghast at turning down ultra low interest loans for anything.

Flame. There is no irony. The wealthiest people are driving Toyotas and Lexuses. Buying a car you can't afford to pay with cash is hoodrat behavior.

Has nothing to do with "taking on as much low interest debt as you can," but rather with the purpose of a car and the depreciating nature of the asset.

I am a true JDM Masterman and buy my cars in cash. But in reality the “most wealthy people buy Toyotas and lexuses” line that Ramsey rolls with is a bit misleading. Most wealthy people are older and not super liquid. Younger higher earners absolutely buy German cars and often have loans.

Also, with a trade-in and a low enough rate (still possible in a new car purchase using captive OEM financing), it’s possible to get a low ass monthly payment without being underwater on the value of the car.

The depreciating nature of the asset backing a loan has almost no relevance, if anything a rational borrower would prefer to secure loans through assets that depreciate.

You've already conceded that it's the best move financially. I can tell you from experience that UHNW are very likely to take advantage of low interest loans. These people often became wealthy because of financial acumen and it becomes second nature for them. Which is why Ackman instinctively used a coupon code for a Karlstack subscription. Everyone ITT disagrees with you. If you're not prepared to accept this after all that then we're at an impasse.

You're still confusing "can" with "should"

A non-prole after 30 knows a car, and especially a car with a loan, is a stupid purchase. The obvious way to deal with a stupid purchase is to either a) minimize the cost or b) purchase it within your means and not prolong the misery of paying for a stupid purchase over many years. You seem to have a hard time understanding this even though you drive an entry-level Tesla

"Everyone ITT disagrees with you. If you're not prepared to accept this after all that then we're at an impasse."

Consensus is not evidence, it's irrelevant to me

I'm not only relying on consensus dude, I listed multiple things. It's objectively a better financial option if you can secure a below market rate, which is a common incentive. And I'm telling you UHNW do this all the time, so I know it's not something "all non proles know." It's the exact opposite actually.

If you want to dismiss my anecdotal evidence and the consensus, theb just consider the math. It's simple rate arbitrage. If someone was purchasing a car for $50k and the dealer offered him 0% 5 year financing, that $50k would grow to $90k after 5 years at 12% avg S&P annual returns.

If a multi-millionaire who could easily afford $50k out of pocket was in that scenario, don't you agree he would be better off financing it? (Please, please don't do a retarded hypo fight and say "But he could buy a cheaper car.")

You're still confusing can and should. Better financial option via a rate arbitrage is not the earth shattering concept you think it is my dude.

Your car should be so cheap relative to your net worth after age 30 that it's worth paying in cash to avoid the administrative complexity of financing altogether. And there are plenty of rich proles, I don't think that's a convincing counterpoint that rich proles finance.

This is such a stupid discussion. If we are talking about buying a new car, choosing to take the .9% loan usually (always?) means that are paying a higher price for the car. It’s usually like .9% or $5k off. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Thinking that you scammed the dealer by taking out a .9% loan is extremely prole.

that's not how it works anymore. the all cash price is typically higher. if you hide the fact you're paying all cash, they get pissed and won't honor the price once they find out. dealers make their money on financing fees now not selling cars, so an all cash sale is a waste of time and money for them
