When Laura Pitcher and Julius Frazer first met, their conversation flowed naturally, but they were in the middle of a double date with other people. A year later, they had their first real date.

Before meeting, Laura Elizabeth Pitcher and Julius Maxi Frazer had been familiar with each other online — matching once on Hinge and following each other on Instagram. He admired her writing, while she was a fan of his photography.
Then, in April of 2021, the two finally crossed paths during a double date at Little Dokebi, a Korean restaurant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with friends who ran in the same circle. Ms. Pitcher had already arrived with her date and was mid-conversation when Mr. Frazer finally showed up — very late — to meet his date. But instead of being put off by his tardiness, Ms. Pitcher soon found herself more interested in him and realized that she would have preferred to be on the date with Mr. Frazer instead.
“There was something about him that I was very drawn to,” she said.
Though they saw each other in passing since their double date, neither pursued anything further than the occasional “hello” at parties. Later that year, Ms. Pitcher, 31, moved to London while Mr. Frazer, 32, stayed in Brooklyn.
Then, in April 2022, on Mr. Frazer’s birthday — exactly a year after their double date — the two ran into each other in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
“I had just moved back to New York, and my cat was screaming for food,” Ms. Pitcher said. “So I went to a shop to grab cat food, and I saw Julius across the street.”
Mr. Frazer invited Ms. Pitcher to his birthday party, which was happening later that evening. Unable to convince any friends to join her, Ms. Pitcher did not attend. The ball was in her court.
“I knew that I had not replied to him on Hinge,” she said. “He’d seen me on a double date with someone else. And then I didn’t go to his birthday party. So I knew at that point I needed to show him some interest.”
A few days later, she decided to DM him on Instagram, asking to hang out. On their first official date with each other, they met at the Bedford-Stuyvesant bar Chilo’s, where they both confessed they wished they had been on a date with each other during the double date the year before.
Ms. Pitcher, who grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand, is a writer and editor for Dazed magazine. She earned a bachelor’s degree in visual communications from Massey University and a master’s degree in journalism from Edinburgh Napier University.
Mr. Frazer grew up in Jersey City, N.J., and attended the School of Visual Arts. He works as a freelance fashion photographer.
After dating for a year, in April 2023, Ms. Pitcher moved into Mr. Frazer’s Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment, where they still live.
In May 2025, Mr. Frazer asked Ms. Pitcher to marry him while celebrating their third anniversary in Osaka, Japan. “I noticed that Julius had his hand in his pocket a lot, so I kind of saw it coming,” she said.
The couple were married on Sept. 5 at City Hall in Manhattan by Guohuan Zhang, a city clerk. The couple always knew they wanted a courthouse wedding, following in the steps of both of their parents, who married in courthouses.
Later that evening, at Frog wine bar in Bedford-Stuyvesant, they gathered with 80 family members and friends for a cocktail and dance party to celebrate. “It’s the neighborhood we fell in love in and where we moved in together,” said Ms. Pitcher, of why they chose the location. Attendees traveled from every corner of the world to celebrate their union, including New Zealand, Australia, the Dominican Republic, and England.
They’re not only partners in life, but also creative collaborators. Together, the couple has worked on various articles with Ms. Pitcher conducting interviews and Mr. Frazer capturing the images. “It’s nice to work together, but we also like that we have our own lanes,” Mr. Frazer said.
Ms. Pitcher added, “We’re each other’s biggest supporters.”

lol.
your analysis should also include mention of officiant "Guohuan Zhang, a city clerk"
adds to the dystopic nature of all this and MFH 2025
there's so much in here. we're not even cracking the surface.
