Seems like an incredibly small number of people destroyed two great franchise names and logos. I can't think of a single person who wouldn't support these teams or go to games because they thought the name was offensive. This has to be the fakest hit job in American history. Like no one cared about this in reality.

I'm not a lib and I wasn't offended by those names but I used to call them the "R******s" in the group chat with some lib friends of mine who were Redskins fans just to cause them cognitive dissonance

Who was mad about this in real life? I feel like it was two editors at WaPo and the NYT? Not one real fan cared? This is such a psyop that any normal people thought this one time.

I fucking loved the Indians as a kid and still have my old battered child sized chief wahoo ball caps

every single person involved with changing the “name” to “Guardians” needs to be covered in honey and thrown into a pit of fire ants under the hot summer sun

Dude for real. They can't find a single red blooded American "male" who would go on live television and say hi my name is Don so-and-so and what really bites my ass is the Chief Wahoo logo. This individual is non-existent in the wild. It's a 100% psyop. There's no rational explanation for this.

It doesn't even say on Wikipedia exactly who was against it. It just says local groups. It cites international attention like who was mad about this some woketards in Japan? No one can say who these groups were. They're not comprised of any prominent or influential figures.

A couple of them are okay

The one with the ridiculous caricature was not really necessary. Braves? I don't remember. The Seminoles have the right idea, fierce native warrior guy, and it's more appropriate for a sports team than the kewpie doll Chief Firewater guy anyway

The Land of Lakes woman and Aunt Jemima/Uncle Ben were probably two of the worst examples of needless removals of inoffensive American portrayals of ethnics imo

I have spoken with res natives unreconstructed by liberal grievance politics and feelings are usually mixed but tend to be positive for most teams' portrayals as long as there's an attempt to be respectful about the source material, which seems like a fair enough compromise to me.

Chief Wahoo offended less than 1% of the population of Ohio and even less than 1% of baseball fans. What's bothersome is that a tiny minority won because of libs and national media attention. No normal person cared about this. There were like 5 guys who protested since the 70s. Boo hoo. No large group of Cleveland Indians fans actually cared. This was engineered by libs. These are people who don't even watch baseball they just wanted to 'win'. You can split hairs all day over what is or isn't a racist depiction. It's only bad if people think it's bad.

And it should come down to what percentage of fans didn't like it. If real life Indians fans didn't like the logo that's fine. If the fans of the team are upset that's one thing. If some liberal wench writing for the Washington Post doesn't like it, go fuck yaself.

Ohioans are not exactly the median opinion marker I'd be taking on the matter, not to say that they're ignorant or anything, but native american politics don't exist quite so much at the local level there, afaik.

The native community in the US is frankly, in many parts, in its death throes atm and having a major identity crisis due to that. Sensitivity to their desires wrt portrayals is germane and compassionate, and imo the best solutions to these sorts of things is basically what FSU did with their mascot; they polled Seminole communities and obtained approval from tribe leaders and it seems like basically everyone's been happy with the outcome there since. I generally agree with the right wing perspective that if the people the portrayal regards enjoy and approve of it then there's no real room for left wing grievance politics to try to weasel in claims.

The fans opinions in the matter are tertiary or secondary at best in my eyes; they are consumers of a cultural product, not people with any real claim to politics regarding the cultural origin of the product like the tribesmen are.

Yeah we can't just do things because somebody was crying about it. The Indians name and logo meant a lot to the fans. You know the fans of the team. Why should they give a shit about appeasing some extremely small group of people? These niggaz lost 99% of their population in the last 500 years. Whoops. There are 5 of em left. Look, I have met a bunch. Most are cool. Some are insane and prone to violent criminality. I don't judge. But there's no rational argument as to why we should bend over backwards for them. You do realize that at the end of the day this is a baseball team with fans who like the name. Something was lost. Something substantial. A culture, an identity, artwork with meaning to millions of people. It was ripped away and deracinated. And it was not to appease the baseball fans. It was not even to appease a divided native community. It was done to appease the liberal media and its ties to Fortune 500 companies with whom you run the risk of losing business relationships. Getting crushed in a full court press by far left newspapers and losing business deals with shitlib companies. That's why they changed it. And over a hundred years of history was lost. Nothing was gained. My opinions of actual Indians is worse. My opinion of the organization is they are cowards. My opinion of libs is well it can't get any worse because I openly hate them. This is a catastrophe of epic proportions and the only remedy is a painful death to those responsible for this unmitigated disaster. No one is safe if they can take your words away like this. We live in a third world country.

Fuck you. The Indians ball club morally belongs to the Indians fans and the people of Cleveland. Everyone else can go fuck themselves. And by ignoring what the real fans thought and destroying the club's identity, the "owners" effectively told the whole of the city of Cleveland to go fuck itself. So fuck them. And fuck you. Hope you and everyone involved gets eaten alive by a hill of fire ants.

for a well-done historical account of the term "Redskin," which basically supports the based view and the view of most Native Americans (ie, the anti-woke view), here is a somewhat long paper (18 pages) done by a scholar for the Smithsonian.
