hmmmm...
well nashville austin has a higher percentage of 180 nigger hot chicken joints so i guess you take the good with the bad.
nashville: more crime, better friend chicken
austin: less crime.
there's enough spics in nashville that you don't miss out on 180 hispanic food. bbq is a wash although different styles. not gonna get as much of dat 180 brisket.

lol you are obviously such a homer it's absurd.
it is a time machine to 1950s endless proliferation of ticky-tack shitboxes. franklin is one gigantic housing development surrounding a miniscule town. they're building those fake ass corporate mainstreets within the towns too.
OH BOY I FEEL LIKE I'M IN 1950 WITH THESE $1M SHITBOXES ON POSTAGE STAMP LOTS!!!

(guy who hasn't spent much time in nashville)
the buckwild niggers are very segregated and getting gentrified out east nashville rapidly. sadly the blue collar prole whites are getting gentrified out now too.
nashville niggers are *FAR FAR AFR* more segregated than austin beaners.

You’re looking for Sandpoint / Ponderay Idaho. Lakefront, ideally, but a case can also be made for up in the hills.
Portland ME if you must have more size or the east coast. WV’s better towns, if you prefer the mountains.
Bentonville if you absolutely must have a megacorp job.

I'd pick nashville.
Everyone in nashville used to say "Nashville is what Austin was 10-15 years ago" but has that equation flipped?
I'm in nashville right this minute by the way for AD/DC show tomorrow. I love it here. But they fucking ruined it wiht insane amounts of development. Its all the Same Building and Same Restaurant everywhere. Apparently traffic is miserable these days and just getting worse.

I have spent significant time in both, and despite that (as you would think that familiarity would bring out the differences), I still think they're very similar and I regularly compare them.
Nashville Cons:
* Way more blacks (vs. mexicans in Austin)
* Absolutely terrible traffic (classic southern city that hasn't invested in infrastructure to match its population growth)
* Significantly less of a college town
Nashville Pros:
* Better sports scene (Titans, plus the Preds have huge local support in a fun way (I'm not a hockeymo))
* Better music/bar scene (specifically, I think Broadway > 6th Street)
* Lots of Vanderbilt grads, but they're far less exclusive to outsiders than someone in Austin who didn't go to UT for either degree
* Dem controlled like all cities, but much less progressive.
* Has a more authentic culture all around, including its genuine and deep connection with country music, and live music more broadly. A couple gems like the belcourt (which has a national importance that I don't really get, but which you definitely benefit from as someone who's there).
Austin Cons:
* I may be out of date here (my time in Austin came after my time in Nashville), but the COL had gotten significantly more out-of-hand in Austin.
Austin Pros:
* Has a bunch of random cultural amenities like the LBJ library and the botanical gardens that I struggle to think of equivalents/substitutes for in Nashville.
* There are also a set of high-end consumer amenities that are much more MFH-like, e.g., austin has an equinox, whereas the gyms in nashville are the same trash that can be found in memphis and birmingham.
Neutral or at least double-edged factors:
* Nashville does not feel like a state capital the way Austin does and you're not as aware of state gov't stuff around you.
* Both are full of transplants, obviously, but nashville is still run by a caste of old-money nashvillians, with the transplant class being more firmly upper-MC and lower-UMC, vs. a richer caste of CA transplants in Austin who wield more power accordingly. On balance, this is a nashville pro for transplant lawyers, because while you won't be running shit, the fellow transplants are your people or slightly lower SES-wise. (I am also personally a believer that old-money families *should* be the ones running towns.) By the way, a lot of the differences between the two towns flow from this.
* Weather differences are what they are: it does get cold as fuck in Nashville in the winter. I like occasional cold, but I will say that the difference in winters is much more significant to me than the difference in summers.
* Austin has better big cities nearby to travel to (san antonio and houston); nashville has a better outdoors opportunities in the surrounding areas. (I actually think this cuts in favor of austin. I like chattanooga and would rather *live* there than SPS houston, but there's not much reason to venture out there from nashville.)
* Both have solid airports, although I vaguely recall Austin having more direct flights to the places I want to go.

Broadway is like chemically engineered to make mid-20s girls drop their panties. Party atmosphere and partier draw, but also safer feeling due to all the olds and whites and country music around them.
I also disproportionately judge cities based on my hookup success there (I've never had any sustained use of apps; I go all natural). I still think of bozeman, MT as the land of milk and honey because I went out two nights and banged a different chick on each.
Meanwhile, at the end of this month I'll be taking what feels like my 1,624th work trip to PHOENIX, where I will jerkily drive my rental Tesla to a bar that the internet has asserted is highly rated, only to find that it is more garishly Themed than a Disney park based on newly acquired cinematic IP, where I will sit next to the seat about to be taken by a mid-60s couple who have driven in for the evening from tempe for some reason, and talk to the male bartender who moved here 6 years ago from a small town in west texas, stopping in PHX rather than going all the way to california because I assume just some people can't dream big enough, until I finish my tall, colorful, icy drink that tastes like it's 100% the juice that was listed 7th of the 8 ingredients on the menu.

Yeah phoenix is like the 5th largest city in the US and on pace to pass tokyo for largest city in the universe by 2045. For some reason I can't really attribute to anything, other than proximity to california and low prices, purely relative to california.
This despite the city having no distinct cultural ("Orlando of the Desert, That's Also Not Fun") or economic (I think the largest corporation based in PHX is like PetCo or Sprouts or something... it's like trying to find a major consumer brand based out of Australia) identity to speak of, as literally >98% of its population came there after WWII. (I looked this one up: metro pop was 65K in 1940 and 4.85M today.)
This is because the only thing actually distinct about the city is a climate that was close to literally unlivable (the name comes from the fact that indians had tried to settled it and abandoned it, and some civil war soldiers came along and restarted a town 'out of the ashes' or whatever) prior to the invention of air conditioning, which is ultimately the same reason that the People of Florida are so incredibly terrible.
Also Osborn Maledon is under the impression that they are a peer firm of susman, kellogg hansen, and bartlit beck, which they are not.

Arizona is definitely a weird vibe. It's kooky that Phoenix grew so big so fast. I thought it was originally billed as the Florida of the west so retirees from cold northern states would finish their lives there in the sun.
It also has some of the most majestically stupid people you'll ever find. A disproportionate number of strippers, whores, and porn actresses come from AZ. Hoing is endemic there for some reason. There's a lot of good looking people with zero brains.
When the Suns were in the Finals people were talking about how retarded the crowd looked compared to normal cities.

I one time (no joke, at an embarrassingly themed PHX bar that resembled my story above) sat next to a lesbian ATF agent and chatted with her about work (I had just recently left the USAO at that time). In Phoenix, the feds will turn over drug and gun arrests that they made to the state for prosecution, both to avoid suppression issues and to achieve stiffer sentences (the reasons that state LEOs turn their big arrests over to the feds in every other state... I will note that, logically, this shouldn't even be possible on the suppression-avoidance front, as the federal 4th Amendment is a floor and not a ceiling).
I have never heard of this, and if there's anyone else ITT who's done fedcrim work, they can attest to how wild it is.
In fairness to PHX (and probably related to both the above and the searing radiative heat), you don't see near the roaming bands of homeless there that you do in most western cities (not even including CA, which appears to just be majority homeless at this point).
