I listened from when I was 12 until 2016 when Trump was elected. He clearly suffered TDS and felt some kind of remorse for not releasing tapes he had with all the wacky shit that Trump would say when he came on. But I think he ultimately made his peace that if the "grab them by the pussy" tape couldn't turn the tide, nothing could. I started listening again in like 2019 and had to stop once COVID got going. He completely lost his mind and went from a cool counterculture figure who I admired to one of the biggest establishment pussies in the world. I thought he was edgy and provocative but Jesus Christ he lost it. Even worse was the fact that the blue collar guys on his show and the callers all had to support his insanity while you know someone like Ronny the Limo Driver or Sal Governale was not going to get a fucking COVID shot unless it was upon a threat of losing their job. |

Rush never lost his edge and was compelling until his last show. Howard completely shit the bed and alienated his audience to a degree that I'm not sure I've ever seen in show business. I think his peak was the Chevy Chase prank calls. He would call Chevy from New York, who was in California, early in the morning, waking him up.
Chevy would get yosemite sam fuming mad, it was great, and Howard did not give one fuck which was the appeal.
I remember an interview with Trump where Trump said he would make his women take shits in their own toilets and they were not allowed to shit in his presence. It ruined the fantasy for him.
I was really excited for Sirius and had a subscription the first day, was up at 3 am or whatever it was to listen and he led off that broadcast with fucking Fart Man. It was so anticlimactic. I was hoping for a nice rant about the FCC but he went with Fart Man and I let my subscription expire. That to me, signaled the beginning of the decline.
The battle with the FCC gave him that "edge". He lost it when he went to Sirius. Good riddence. |
