the only games I have found that don't run under proton are those which require EAC, and even then often the actual game will run but lack of EAC support in linux blocks you from multiplayer. even if a game is only marked "playable" for the steam deck it usually runs perfectly fine on the linux desktop, that just means it sucks to play on a tiny handheld screen. |

Date: November 12th, 2025 7:52 PM Author: Galvanic sadistic hell yes, the steam deck has already done this with pretty solid results. they would not be releasing this if they weren't satisfied with how the steam deck sold and was received. on top of that the steam machine won't have to deal with the constraints of most games not being suited to a handheld screen
and wine isn't an emulator (guess where the name "wine" came from), it's basically a re-implementation of windows system calls. how performance compares to windows varies by game, but in my experience it's generally identical to native. a few games are noticably slower, a few are noticably faster, most are the same |
