WNBA might be a better product than the NBA.

it's not but there is no drama more compelling than the open discrimination of cailtin clark in the nba right now
not to say that the nba is a good product

the tension and jealousy is a good thing. the racial aspect is annoying to me.
in a few years the WNBA is really going to take off. We'll have a stable of established household-name young stars with CC, Angel Reese, Bueckers, Juju Watkins, Hannah Hidalgo together with some older GOAT level players like A'ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu.
Bump this post in 3 years. Not flame.

There's jealousy for sure. Players who have been making $60k for years and playing overseas in the offseason to make ends meet who resent CC who has tons of endorsements and is rich. A lot believe that part of the CC phenomenon is the fact that she's white and if she were black, she would be treated very differently.
There's some truth to that. Caitlyn Clark was a household name in college. Juju Watkins and Hannah Hidalgo put up similar numbers and IMO are more sensational players to watch. How many posters know who they are? Paige Bueckers, another white girl, is also widely known.
On the court, CC has been subjected to a number a hard fouls that people rightly or wrongly attribute to this partially race fueled jealousy.

The college game clearly had better storylines - which was 90% of the battle.
But then when you tune it into the game, they just can't shoot. Shots taht would go in for a man 95% of the time end up being airballs and shit.

I largely agree with this.
Caitlyn Clark has the most compelling narrative arc of anyone playing basketball currently.
Her game is legitimately enjoyable to watch, and there is actual narrative tension around how big a superstar she can become in the WNBA.
Part of this is that the ruthless optimization of the NBA game has in large part stripped it of its narrative appeal.
There was a stretch before Federer and Nadal came around where the women's game had Martina Hingis and Anna Kournakova, and the Williams sisters were just starting. Where women's tennis had more interest than men's tennis did.
This is sort of similar.

Thinking about this a little more,
The WNBA has a couple of other things going for it.
First, they have the benefit of leveraging the free marketing from the college game, since player stay in school longer, you get to know them, then when they're ready to come into the pro game, they're more ready to be difference makers as soon as they show up.
Their games are easy to find on TV. Weekend afternoon TV slots. I guess I'm old, but the NBA starting games at 9PM, I'm half asleep by the second half, my kids aren't staying up to watch that. Weekend afternoon TV slots are much easier for casual fans (and young fans). Not that much competition in the summer either.

Agree with all your points.
It's also cool that the WNBA season starts just 1 month after the NCAA season ends, so there's some momentum for the new players and in real time you get to see them transform from college kid to pro.
With the men, it's the better part of a year between the end of the college season and start of the pro.

hingis and kournakova are hot
the williams sisters were phenom talents
where is women's tennis now?
caitlyn clark is a one girl show. it will stay that way. ticket prices $40 for her games and $1.25 for other wnba games.
