I can see why you would say that, but ask you to reconsider. Joe Elliott is an underrated lyricist and you can see his genius if you look closely.
Take "Pour Some Sugar On Me" for example.
He didn't limit the lyrics to sugar like most rock artists would have--he went out of the box to reference artificial sweeteners and then seemlessly segued back to sugar effortlessly:
You got the peaches, I got the cream
Sweet to taste, saccharine
'Cause I'm hot (hot), say what, sticky sweet
From my head (head), my head, to my feet
Do you take sugar? One lump or two?
What is really masterful about this verse is how the answer "yes" to the question whether he takes sugar is implied and the lumps of sugar evoke images of British teacups.
