It gets subsidized like corn does in the states and then dumped into the domestic processed foods market at a rate that's not at all competitive for the losses that the state takes on EU style farm subsidies. You'd think they'd be happy with any low logistical cost major sales opportunity on the continent but I guess they're still into hating the yanqui more than giving their farmers legitimate outlets for their product

in many instances it's probably not even mexican grown azucar being used (and as i said above, it's not a new world plant); mexico imports a surprising amount of sugar from other nations, and increasingly so after protracted droughts have decimated soil quality throughout the country

a prime example is vaccine hesistency. for a long time the "vaccines cause autism!" crowd were crunchy west coast libs who were skeptical of bigpharma. as soon as some cons joined in re: the covid vax they all became "trust the science!" and accused anyone of being skeptical of bigpharmas altruism as a conspiracy theorist.
