this is the devastating truth that passive investors never acknowledge
while it may be optimal for maximizing expected returns, it also caps your upside to be exponentially less than what the previous generation has, and keeps you in line with all your peers.
you'll always be 10-20 years behind your elders, you'll never get "ahead" in a relative sense. broad market indexing, passive investing, is essentially communism - everyone gets the same returns.
it nullifies any sense of progress or competition or having an edge. it's a humiliation as you're kept in the exact same spot as everyone else, and perpetually behind senile boomers. it's a surefire way to be miserable even as you become a millionaire.
