The population totals for the succeeding Jin imperial state only had about ~18 million within the census rolls. |

Chiang Kai-Shek's regime would've been just as bloody i/r/t political reprisals. There's nothing "communism specific" about the death toll; it's just another instance of both Chinese political warfare's intrinsic bloodiness and typical mopping up to solidify power after a civil war. It's still morally objectionable, but it's a different part of the world, and Westerners often aren't really looking at it in the right context. |
