Indeed, history suggests that what became "Korea" began as some Chinese warlord getting his ass whooped and being forced to live in this cold, craggy outpost with nothing going on. Just ugly, rocky mountains and steep valleys you can't farm without risking massive soil erosion. Compare to mainland China and the difference is stark.
