worth noting, given that the libs are more lockstep than the cons.

Kagan wrote the opinion tossing Mexico's mass tort liability suit against US gun manufacturers.

Jackson wrote the opinion tossing the Sixth Circuit's imposition of special burdens on members of majority groups suing for discrimination.

Sotomayor wrote the opinion striking down WI's singling out of just the Catholic Charities for ineligibility under WI's religious exemption for its unemployment compensation program.

It is kind of odd that scotus still/currently feels the need to play the traditional politics of pandering to libs (represented here by not only adopting narrower-than-necessary conservative opinions in order to achieve 9-0 decisions, but allowing libs to write them).

In the era of TRUMP you think they'd have that covered by the fact that the administration is losing like 90% of its cases and is vocally MAF at them for it.

ok, but i like the fact that Jackson wrote the reverse discrimination opinion and Kagan wrote the one protecting gun manufacturers.

Roberts takes his responsibilities seriously. He has an obligation to pursue decisions that draw the most consensus. He catches a lot of shit but he has navigated a difficult period in American politics very well.

To be honest I haven't read 2 of these 3 specific opinions yet, so I don't know if cons really sacrificed much substantively. This (consensus-seeking narrowing) has happened a lot recently with the Free Exercise Clause: e.g., Fulton went 9-0 but didn't overrule Employment Division v. Smith, despite 5 justices concurring and saying "we should overrule Smith." <-- Okay well faggots do you dumb boomers need an IT millennial to come show you how to rename your "2021-06-01 Fulton_Concur_Alito_Edits_MAF.docx" draft into a "2021-06-20 Fulton_Op_of_Court.pdf" file?

That reverse-discrimination standard has always been weird af -- its actual motivation, I think, was just old-school old-white-man-federal-judge skepticism toward plaintiffs (and maybe discrimination plaintiffs in particular) and a desire to throw up some barriers to their cases, but it ended up coincidentally aligning with LJL 2010s-era progressive racial-hierarchy thought in the vein of "racism is an abuse of power, so blacks can't ever be said to be 'racist' against whites" -- and I could actually see Jackson et al. legit disagreeing with it as strongly / on the same basis as the cons.

ridiculous that 9-0 cases get full merits reviews. these cases should be summarily reversed quickly
