He estimated the odds of a critical failure happening by treating each point of failure as statistically independent of every other point of failure, multiplied them and said "it's less than 1%"
As a result of this, he put in no grant proposals to use JWST. No one in his department wanted to stand up to him and say "uhh google 'covariance'" so now all his advisees are locked out too.
He also makes next to zero public appearances anymore. There's no point |
