i rewatched 2 and it's better than i remember. it's all about sexual dynamics and missing a lot of the social commentary.
i appreciate how aubrey plaza and the assistant are both bitter and unhappy because "everything sucks and the world is over." rings very true to me about how white women especially are so apt to getting sucked into this mindset because of the constant negative news cycle. meanwhile the two literal whores are able to find joy despite being in worse material circumstances. the brit chad doing gay for pay is right about how every how pretty much every other period in history is worse than what we're dealing with today, and if you can't find happiness despite the problems in the world that's a you problem.
daphne is portrayed as a vapid dimwit but ultimately she is revealed to be someone that is just choosing to be happy. she's a stay at home wife with kids. yeah cam has problems and the world is on fire, but she copes, in some ways unethically, and is living a better life than aubrey plaza, who cannot cope with the world and be satisfied even though she's living better than 99.99% of humans that ever existed.

3 is by far the worst. This is consensus opinion. Still enjoyable.

rachel had already abandoned her career aspirations to be a trophy wife, and struggled with the reality of that briefly, but ended on accepting that. she started and ended as the same person.
piper was presented as being genuine about her spiritual aspirations, only to have those suddenly revealed as superficial. her character was completely different by the end.
not only is "being a career woman" versus "being a Buddhist monk" completely different, but the characters arc are completely opposite. rachel didn't change, she recovered from an identity crisis and ended where she started. piper did a complete 180 on her core identity.

I think Season 3 is objectively the biggest season with the highest stakes. There's much deeper discussions, bigger questions, more danger, etc.
Season 2 is definitely interesting too and the Jennifer Coolidge storyline gets wild.
Season 1 is the smallest. I get why people have an affinity with it, and its got funny realistic dialogue but its crazy how people were like "Season 3 is so slow" when Season 1 was about if someone would get a hotel room and if a dad and his son would go scuba diving.

1 > 2 > 3
I literally just binge watched them all in order in a week. One and two are excellent, three is really boring.
1 with funniest, most original, and most tongue in cheek. It's about rich American white people who are out of touch and it makes fun of them and strikes at the taboos of wealth and detachment from normal life. It's tightly written and never gets boring. Also the shortest. It's the most White Lotus-y of the seasons. Best acting, best cast, best writing. It's totally fresh and worth watching.
Season 2 I really enjoyed and thought was excellent. It was not as good as the first but still very excellent. It still felt fresh and new. It starts slow, the middle really heats up, and then it kind of cools off towards the end but I did enjoy the last episode which was vaguely Tarantino-esque. It deals more with sexual themes than grotesque wealth and humor.
Season 3 to me was very disappointing. Rife with channel drift, lazy writing, poorly developed character arcs, lots of repeats of stuff we've already seen. By this point I was totally burned out on the series. It was the least insightful into lives of rich out of touch Americans and got more into darker and spiritual themes. People like this season in the same way that people thought Revenge of the Sith was the best Star Wars prequel because it was the darkest and edgiest. This season is both a departure from the first two seasons in tone and themes, but also a complete repeat of everything you've already seen before if you watched the first two. I really felt at this point that Mike White was creatively tapped out and they were just more episodes because the show is so profitable.
I would definitely watch 1, then 2 if you really like it, and skip 3. I would never watch 3 again.
