Date: August 21st, 2025 5:35 PM Author: turbofag (slop til you drop) They made that record because James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich told them they were going to be the first crossover hard rock act to blow up really mainstream. I personally hated it. Then they doubled down and made Once More Round the Sun which was even poppier. I hated it, but somehow less than I hated The Hunter. Emperor of Sand had no Brent songs and it was unlistenable. I saw them play it live and it was so bad I had to go hang out in the concourse until they went back to playing Blood Mountain.
The last offering that was written by Brent was A Cold Dark Place which I felt had kernels of interesting music but sounded incomplete. I still enjoyed the last smattering of his songwriting talent. I never listened to Hushed and grim but I assume it's fucking terrible.
In general I only listen to their first four studio records. |
