Did it to plan out my cross examination, what used to take me 6 hours to prep I was able to do in 20 minutes. If you’re a lawyer whose job is safe in that you actually have to go to court, this is going to be a game changer in the next 10 years. After that they’ll probably have digital lawyers and we’re all fucked but this is amazing.

Explain the process.

Like do you have it read a deposition then ask it for questions on cross? Or what?

So I will say Write me a cross examination for a case involving XYZ (very specific as in write two to three paragraphs summarizing the case). This case is in Southern District of New York before Judge Francis. The witness I’m cross examining is XYZ (very specific). I anticipate that he will say XYZ.

Every single time there are 2-3 questions I’m like shit I never even thought to go that route.

Then you have a skeleton and just sort of tweak it. It will literally pull things from past cases that this specific judge ruled and tailor your cross. In less than 5 seconds. Unbelievable.

Got it. We used to hire “law students” to do all the grunt work for us. We would always have to heavily edit their shit although they did a very good autistic job of giving us a framework. I would say out of 10 if the lawstudent’s work product was a 3 this is an 8. Still need to edit but not as much. And I don’t have to wait a week for the law student to get it to me. Just 12 seconds.

It’s insane. And this is the free one. I bet the “deep” search or whatever that you pay for is even better. If they make one specific for law “like ChatGpt Lawyer” or something it’s going to be fuckin insane.

A long way from law school when some 28 year old law librarian pedophile would teach you how to do physical key notes in those gold law books even though there was online westlaw.

Of course. See above. I look at this as a first rough draft some paralegal or first year lawyer gave me. Instead of waiting for the paralegal to give it to me a week later after scrolling through instagram and having a mental breakdown bc her psych pills are late, I can get a rough draft in 12 seconds—a draft that’s 3x better than the paralegal.

Litigator myself here. What does the judge’s prior rulings have to do with drafting a cross? Shouldn’t you be doing motions in limine before trial on any threshold evidentiary issues relevant to the cross? I don’t get this thread one bit.

Between dumb boomers, the profession’s historically good job at protectionism and how utterly horrible AI is for legal work at this point; I think it’s a non issue for at least the next 5-10 years. Beyond then, who the fuck knows. The whole world is going to look very different in 5-10 years and I don’t know what to think.

AI's legal work can be hit or miss, but so can lawyers'. The real wild part, as you point out, is that it does the work in a matter of minutes or seconds.

The only thing preserving law jobs at this point is that normies do not understand our "magic" and feel comforted by our priestly presence, and are willing to pay for it.

But this is like old boomers still using travel agents or something. Won't last the death of a generation.

It's really impressive. Obviously, the morons will just cut and paste. But as you note, the added value is (1) massive time save for the bulk of work, and (2) it gives you ideas you never thought of or it helps hone things. You still have to have a brain to make it truly 180 but it makes it much, much simpler for a person with a brain to get to 180.
