Like the idea of being able to hoard electricity but having this shit in my roof seems like asking for problems. What do you guys think?

I have solar panels in what you might describe as the midwest. They provide about 50% of our electricity over a year’s time in an all electric house. At current power rates payback will take 17 years after taking into account the tax credit. The panels are mounted in the yard instead of on the roof, but they should not be a problem on the roof unless after installing them you have to replace the roof. Then there will be the extra expense of removing and reinstalling them. Battery storage sounds neat but will cost you out the kazoo. A limited amount of battery storage to handle power outages could be useful but it will be much more expensive than installing a backup generator. My equipment has been trouble free going into its 4th year. If you do it, find an experienced and reputable installer.

I saw some 180 combo battery backup generator solar panel sets. The idea is that the batteries can power you for 24-72 hrs and then generator kicks in.
