right now, as i am typing this, i am staying in a mancamp in between Midland and Big Spring. I have been here for close to a month. I've made almost 12k after tax doing this, but i have worked every single day for the past month barring the days where they're pulling the drill bit out and putting it back in. the food is free and i meet interesting people, but i am surrounded by the outcasts and dregs of society. my current underling is a woman in her 30s (can't tell exactly how old she is) that has abandoned her four children and looks more mentally ill than almost anyone i've ever seen at a glance. she has a decal on her car that says, "Tough enough to be a roughneck, sexy enough to be a stripper". she has a tattoo on her neck that's of some gay butterfly that says, "choke me" above one of the wings. She's made it very clear to me she's single.

i love geology, but it's a fucking nebulous science much of the time. it's an investigative science based on interpretation and approximation. there are few things that are EXACT in geology. coming from someone who studied chemistry and math, it's so goddamned frustrating to not be able to have an answer to something. someone could say something is a silty sandstone. someone else could say it's a sandy siltstone. guess what? they're both fucking wrong, it's limestone, somehow. drives me up a fucking wall.

if you're single it's also difficult to manage ur living situation. i make so much goddamn money but i'm technically homeless. i do not have an apartment because it makes no sense to rent one because i'm gone 80% of the fucking time. i was staying in dallas earlier at a shitty motel and some fucking NIGGER broke into my room and stole my laptop and phone. it sent me into a fucking downward spiral, i had been sober for months but i immediately went into a fucking bender chugging four lokos for a week. fucking time traveled and completely lost a week of time. i'm telling you this to impress upon you, do NOT study geology.

Btw when I used to do oil and gas legal work, our expert geologist was also a petroleum engineer. He had his own consulting firm and made bank.

an ex of mine is a water scientist and she would often have to go out to facilities thst involve a lot of waste water to ensure theyre compliant. one visit was to an industrial laundry facility after they got hit with a safety violation, which i guess triggered waste water analysis.

the safety violation was some gook falling into a gigantic industrial dryer and no one being able to get him out. apparently it was drying on low heat. so this poor gook was agitated and slow cooked while a bunch of other gooks fruitlessly tried to pry the door or stop the machine, all the while screaming in gook.
