A Korean Air plane has officially departed Seoul, South Korea, and is on its way to Atlanta to pick up and bring back the more than 300 South Korean workers detained in an ICE immigration raid at a Hyundai plant in Georgia last week.
The Boeing 747 is expected to land in Atlanta shortly before 10 a.m..
The South Korean government has been actively working to secure the workers’ release, along with its representatives at the Korean Embassy in Washington, DC, and the Consulate General in Atlanta.
More than 300 South Korean workers detained this week in an immigration raid at a Hyundai manufacturing site in southeast Georgia have reportedly had their releases negotiated and will fly home, according to Korean reports.
An English report by Korea's Chosun Ilbo quotes the country's presidential chief of staff, Kang Hoon-sik, stating, "Negotiations for the release of the detainees have concluded.
"As soon as administrative procedures are finalized, a chartered flight will depart to bring our nationals home," Kang is quoted saying in the report published Sunday. "...Thanks to the rapid and unified efforts of government agencies, economic organizations, and businesses, negotiations for the release of the detained workers have been finalized."
