Taking Qs on freezing my eggs (despite not wanting to reproduce)

Date: May 23rd, 2026 11:12 PM Author: oomox I am 100% sure I don't want to bring a new life into this world, but at 32, I decided that I should freeze some eggs just in case something changes in some impossible-to-anticipate way in the distant future. I intend to foster/adopt, but I wanted to have a plan B in case something makes that impossible and I still want to be a parent and it's too late to do it naturally.
I also partly pursued this because I was interested in seeing my numbers. The women in my family are extremely fertile, and I knew that my numbers would be great, but holy shit they were practically off the charts, exceptional for a woman of ANY age, not just an almost-33yo. At my ultrasound at the consultation the doctor literally said "it's an egg factory in here!" lmfao. Here are my numbers if you want to fact check how good they are: AFC=32, cd3 AMH=5.03, cd3 inhibin B=159, cd3 FSH=4.06, cd3 estradiol=27.9, no PCOS
Due to my ABUNDANT RESERVE and HIGH HORMONAL RESPONSIVENESS the doctor put me on a very conservative cycle. I ended up freezing 25 mature eggs, which is basically the optimal outcome. Any more and it would've been painful for me. The process involved injecting myself multiple times per day, which quickly got rid of my fear of needles. It was pretty intense but now it's a skill I have if I ever need to do it again. This was in 2024 btw. |

If I somehow changed my mind and decided to reproduce, it would certainly be worth trying until at least 45. I just turned 35. But it's not infinite. At some point I won't have 30+ exceptional-quality eggs hanging around in my ovaries each month waiting to get chosen. I'll have none at all.
I was thinking of the "better timeline" possibility too, but I think it's cleaner if you don't try to make a judgment on that, just consider the fact that I'll only be using this if there's no way I can Recruit an egg Contemporaneously. If it's the only possible path to reproduction at the point I decide I want to reproduce. |

Btw the doctor also made a kind of big deal of my genetic screening results and how I'm not a carrier for any conditions. So idk. I'm sure they're all good tbh. I feel like I did what I had to do to give my future self the opportunity to reproduce in the best possible circumstances, if I somehow decide I want to do that. It was a pretty impulsive thing. Maybe I was intended to decide to freeze my eggs at that time. |

Morphologically 19 were great; those are the ones that were frozen right after retrieval. The last 6 matured overnight so they were just OK and have a lower expected success rate. This isn't anything about their inherent quality, just the timing of the cycle. But the chances of success are high with the batch I got. Plus there's only a miniscule chance I want to use them.
