Doesn't really seem like they fucked them over, dude. I was expecting them to get screwed out of royalties or something. Not "well it would have been cool to make more games with them."

biggest shaft was when the brit bros showed them a 3d platformer concept, nintendo told them to fuck off and it wasn't gonna happen. then they straight up copied the concept to make super mario 64

If Nintendo had used patents or something to totally bar them from making a platformer I'd agree, but they still got to make their own platformer that was their own property. The fact the title wasn't as good seems to vindicate Nintendo's decision to keep Mario in-house.

the article doesn't do much to explain how their game was similar to SM64. the mere concept of "3d platformer" isn't exactly mind blowing

It was at the time. Wonder if Japan needed westerners to come up with it for them…

THIS is how you partner with westerners, Nintendo. Squeeze Engineering out of them and kick them to the fuckin’ curb when they outlive their usefulness. Don’t “buy” their company and pay them for 7 years to make shitty games. NO Dream Team. Hold them Captive in Japan and then turn off their keycard access one day with no warning.
