Indian Men Apply to JPMorgan in Record Numbers After Misreading Scandal as “Diversity Hiring Initiative”
New York/Mumbai — JPMorgan Chase has reportedly received a historic surge in job applications from Indian men this week after thousands of LinkedIn users, WhatsApp uncles, MBA aspirants, and “fintech thought leaders” dramatically misinterpreted a recent scandal involving one of the bank’s executives.
According to sources inside the bank’s HR department, applications from Indian men increased by 427% overnight, with cover letters overwhelmingly using phrases such as “I believe I am uniquely positioned for this opportunity,” “I have always admired JPMorgan’s culture,” and “I am brown and available immediately.”
One applicant from Gurgaon reportedly wrote:
“Dear Hiring Manager, I saw recent developments and believe my demographic profile aligns strongly with JPMorgan’s emerging strategic direction.”
Another candidate, currently an associate at a Big Four firm, submitted a 19-page deck titled “Brown Boy Market Expansion Strategy: From Incident to Opportunity.”
JPMorgan’s recruiting team was allegedly confused when hundreds of applicants selected “Other” under referral source and wrote: “Times of India.”
The bank has since clarified that the scandal is “not a hiring campaign, not a graduate leadership program, and absolutely not a new diversity pipeline.”
This clarification did little to slow interest.
On Blind, one anonymous user posted: “Does anyone know if this role is front office or more of a relationship management track?” Another replied: “Following. Also, does it sponsor H-1B?”
Meanwhile, Indian parents across Edison (New Jersey), Mumbai, and Hyderabad have reportedly begun encouraging their sons to “at least apply,” noting that “JPMorgan is still JPMorgan.”
One mother said:
“Prajeet, scandal or no scandal, it is a very good brand name. You can explain later.”
A spokesperson for recruiting platform DesiJobs360 said the surge reflects “strong candidate-market fit,” adding that Indian men remain “highly responsive to any signal involving finance, prestige, visa sponsorship, or accidental relevance.”
At press time, JPMorgan had quietly added a new application question:
“Are you applying because you are qualified for this role, or because of something you read in the news?”
