Xbox failing disastrously just makes them more apt to port their titles bc they have nothing to lose whatsoever. The only reason not to port is because it saps away brand equity and gives everyone one less reason to buy the box.
In 1997 it would’ve been a big undertaking to port FF7 and would’ve required 12 cartridges or something.
Go back further — snes and Genesis hardware were different enough and porting enough of a pita that Konami made separate games for Genesis rather than porting SNES games. The Genesis games were more violent, fast-paced, and badass. |
