Why don’t you just buy a new one and spend your time stacking cash instead?

being able to fix & repair shit is a pretty valuable skill. This is a solid craftsman 24" that just needed a full cleaning. I didn't even have to rebuild the engine, just the carburetor.

why would you think you needed to do that? Busting open an engine and pulling the pistons out should mean you know for fucking sure the engine is dead dead

Nah. Low compression that still runs means a rebuild is in order. We are probably talking about a single cylinder Briggs. You could start rebuilding in an evening before jeopardy and have it done by the time wheel is over.

Well, anyone with a few minutes and a $20 compression tester, but more to the point, low compression often shows in hard to start so people tend to notice (or these days put it on the side of the road where I grab it).

yes but he claims he just rebuilt the carb which means he didn't check fuel and air first, which is dumb

I mean 98% of problems are a plugged carb or corroded points so it’s not unreasonable.

that's exactly why suggesting he was going to rebuild an engine was very unreasonable, also he did not rebuild a carb during the course of this thread, even the simplest ones have tons of tiny little fucking parts, professional shops don't bother with that any more because it takes too fucking long

Agree with the first part, the second part is wrong at least as applied to small engine carbs. There is not much to them at all. I don’t know what professional small engine shops do, but I would prefer to rebuild as the chineseium carbs you get off eBay/amazon are kind of crap compared to an original carb from the 90s or so on down.
