Humans have become no more than a means to an end for capital with no real "out" in sight
Regular people aren't even capable of thinking about the world in non-"economic" terms anymore. Their brains have been completely colonized by technocapital. You could tell them that they need to be culled en masse or else the economy would suffer and they would just go along with it (and in fact this is basically what is happening in "the west" right now)

Karl Polanyi's concept of "fictitious commodities" in his book The Great Transformation refers to land, labor, and money, which are treated as market goods but were not actually produced for sale and thus shouldn't be subject to market forces alone. He argued that treating these fundamental elements of society as mere commodities (like anything else produced for exchange) distorts social relations, leading to crises, social disruption, and the "double movement" where society pushes back to protect itself from market excesses.
The Three Fictitious Commodities
Labor: Human activity is inseparable from life itself; it's not an inanimate product made for sale, so commodifying it treats human beings as mere means to an end, undermining social life.
Land: Nature isn't man-made but a given; treating it as a commodity (e.g., real estate) allows speculation and profit motives to destroy ecosystems and displace communities.
Money: A token of exchange, money isn't inherently a commodity but becomes one under the gold standard, leading to financial instability and crises when its supply is dictated by market forces rather than social needs.
