we hit up costco weekly. We go out to eat about once a week and get take away around twice a week.

I feel like others eat out way more. Am I wrong? Its like so much more money. These people just own cats and no kids or what?

My wife is good for 2 eat-outs per week with the kids. Usually she orders pizza on Fridays (which is like $35-40 because I told her she was not allowed to get delivery or pay tips) and then a lunch over the weekends.

She may order lunch for herself at work from time to time too, but mostly she brings her own lunch to work.

About once a month she might have an extra eat-out for whatever reason.

I only go to restaurants when we are on vacation.

theres no longer an $ efficient way to eat, if u grocery shop and try to make nice food prices are still insane, basically same as eating out for every meal if u arent buying in bulk and rice cooking staples and eating ramen etc like a weird lib

every meal is $45, its just a decision on if u feel like wasting your time preparing it or not vs giving up eating for "taste" (eat bags of rice/canned tuna w mercury in it/cat food or CEREAL for DINNER https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/feb/27/kelloggs-ceo-cereal-for-dinner

went on a date recently. Found a decent place with like $18 entrees, took her there. Bill was still $118, total food costs were like $50 of that, the rest were drinks. Her 2x glass of wine was like $17.50 each, the same price as the entree she ordered.

Drinks are where they get you man

I can't believe what some people spend on Doordash.

Between inflated prices in the app, fees to Doordash, and a decent tip to me, people are routinely paying far more than what it would cost to go get their food themselves.

I honestly think doordash and the like were what kicked off food (especially restaurant) inflation. when covid meant everyone started getting delivery restaurants realized there was a large tolerance for a massive increase in price because people are willing to shell out 25 bucks to have a mcds meal delivered, so why wouldn't they tolerate $15 chipotle too?

Prices are at least double what you remember. Two burritos at Chipotle’s is now in that $28-30 range. TSINAH’s Jimmy John’s tabs would now run into the 50s. My trip to Outback would range about a buck thirty to a buck forty.

Nope $35 for 3.5 oz of shrimp. I complained to the waitress and the head chef (from Italy) comes out and starts trying to argue with me about how his shrimp costs $20 per lb. and eventually offers me a free desert (which never came). Joke of a meal but $35 is a penny to Newport Beach people

I get people eating out a lot especially at Chili's level restaurants or their more expensive, non-chain equivalents.

The fine dining part is what I don't get. Like all the admins and paralegals debating what the best steakhouses and high end sushi places are.

It's like - a week's take home pay for them?

Post-Covid most restaurants now are not worth the price. Waiters are over intrusive and morons, and they ALWAYS auction the food ("DURR did you have the ____?") even when there are just two people at the table. Shit club music overly loud. Some will have stupid pre-season football on a tv but still market themselves as upscale. And of course some places you have people bringing their fucking dogs inside the restaurants and/or the patio.

Cooking sucks, especially when it's for one or two people. Restaurants make better tasting food than I could ever make.

I eat out roughly 10-14 times a week. Make breakfast in the morning, eat out for lunch and later for dinner. Sometimes I'll eat leftovers for lunch.
