Just started re-watching both series. Even almost 40 years later the writing is still hilarious and very relevant.

I was shilling for this a few weeks ago. It’s incredibly good, one of the greatest things ever made for television.

Agreed, nothing on American TV has come close.

If you liked Yes Minister you should watch The Thick of It. Peter Capaldi is hilarious.

Also seen it. Very good too. I think Veep has its moment that match The Thick Of It. But Yes Prime/Minister is peerless.

I think Veep went on for 2 or 3 seasons too long. Also the finale was one of the weirdest things I've ever watched.

the really crazy thing is that he's only the second-funniest italian scotsman involved with that show (behind showrunner Armando Iannucci)

Trivia: the two main writers were close friends who sat on opposite ends of politics, one Labor one Conservative. That’s why the Jim Hacker character is never identifiable as being left or right, and the show is about government as a process and machine rather than as anything partisan. No partisan “jokes”, ever. I’m certain this is a big part of what makes it great and timeless.

Agreed, the show was never about "politics" per se, although from what people have told me, to contemporary British viewers it was fairly clear Hacker was a Tory.
