the market seems to be meeting a demand for packaged food that isn't full of junk, additives, chemicals, stabilizers, added sugar, other garbage etc.
this stuff is way more expensive, and it's marketed as "only __ ingredients" and such.
i suppose that's a good thing.

it's a good trend but it's better to avoid processed food as much as possible. for kids, eating whole foods like carrot sticks or apple slices or nuts is way better
as an occasional treat or on the go, it's ok.
also, this shit is absurdly priced. often tiny bags cost 5 or 6 dollars

is there anything inherently worse w eating this stuff simply bc it's "processed"? does the body digest and absorb nutrients differently? i've never been clear on that. tons of junk science out there, and not clear what to believe. you could have a strawberry that's fresh vs frozen vs. freeze-dried vs. dehydrated vs. made into some sort of mush in the form of a bar or gummy. is there really any practical difference?
yep, this shit is expensive, but even fresh produce is expensive nowadays w inflation.
for kids, they're eating way more overall servings of fruit and veggies eating this stuff and it adds variety when combined with real fruits and veggies. they also see this stuff as fun and we use it for rewards.

for these so called "clean" foods, the processing uses some other food-derived ingredient where the conventional snack would use a synthetically derived chemical.
second, the texture for many processed foods is strictly worse. the foods often need less chewing which encourages eating faster and sometimes, too much. it's best for kids (and adults) to eat foods that require chewing to extract nutrients and begin the breakdown process.
for a couple examples, consider
oatmeal from rolled oats >>> some natural brand of cheerios > general mills cheerios
or for fruits
blueberries with their skins > freeze dried blueberries >> some blueberry snack

like what? are these ingredients not required to be listed on the ingredient list?

see this is where it's impossible to know what to believe. the juice/smoothie craze tells you that it's better to have the stuff pulverized because you're making sure you're extracting all the nutrients, whereas if you chew, you're not necessarily extracting everything. all very confusing.
