The PS3 also sold really well in its opening weeks / months and then stagnated for years and only was revived following a concentrated development strategy effort by Sony that took years to execute. Switch 2 sales are being driven by Switch 1 goodwill and a large Nintendo fan base. But if they don’t launch actual Games beginning in 2026 their window of opportunity will close. Also, the screen and battery life are real problems, especially the battery life. People are buying this expecting it to run 4/5/6 hours unplugged and are getting surprised when it’s done at the 2.5 hour mark. They’ve made minor improvements there with firmware but it’s still a fundamental problem. It’s also a bit awkward when someone with a Switch 1 OLED has better looking colors than you with your new Switch 2. All of these things are solvable with time and effort but don’t let Nintendo become PS3 era Sony, cocky and overconfident from a prior generation’s victory and making fundamental mistakes.
