I agree that stuff can look like it "defies physics" if you don't have the real data. A lot of this stuff I'm assuming they had the engineers that designed the instruments look at the full telemetry dump and they still couldn't agree on what it was, but who knows. You can see the object being actively tracked by the gimbal system while the background moves around it. Trackers don't lock onto mirror contamination. Also there is a point where the object makes an abrupt movement and the tracker visibly loses and then partially recovers the lock. That obviously can't happen from a debris smudge.
