He understands about 78% of what is happening. This is important. He is not stupid. A stupid cop would be comic relief. Ruffalo is worse. He is basically competent. He notices things. He gets close. Then the remaining 22% destroys his life. There is also trouble at home. Always. A wife is gone. A child hates him. Someone is dead. The marriage is bad. The house is quiet. He has eaten dinner over the sink. Then a murderer or magician or elaborate criminal arrives who has spent considerably more time thinking about the problem than Ruffalo has. Ruffalo looks tired. He opens a folder. He understands 78%. He makes a bad phone call home. The suspect understands 100%.
